This COMIC musical opens in the town of Titipu, Japan, where the outrageous crime of flirting has been outlawed, under penalty of death, following orders from the mighty Mikado. However, his subjects have found a way for engaging in their favorite activity without risking their heads: they have appointed Ko-Ko, the next convict condemned to death, as Lord High Executioner, so that nobody could be decapitated unless the Lord High Executioner cuts his own head first…, and, as all of us well know “self-decapitation is an extremely difficult, not to say dangerous, thing to attempt”. Their scheme fell apart when the Mikado, in person, decides to visit the village to take stock of the situation.

To add the necessary measure of love, romance, and hilarity, we have Yum-Yum, a “little girl from school”, the ward of Ko-Ko, and his elected bride. Yum-Yum, on the other hand, has just fallen deeply in love with the traveling musician and son-of-the-Mikado-in-disguise Nanki-Poo, who reciprocates her affections. In turn, Nanki-Poo ended up in Titipu after running away from his father’s court in order to avoid being betrothed to the unappealing and bloodthirsty lady Katisha. A thoroughly Gilbert&Sullivan plot, which has already made an uncountable number of theatregoers across the world laugh, enjoy and sing along.
